Hemlock Edge Rescue | Our Story
“THE ROOTS OF LOVE IN RESCUE” | Our Mission
Hemlock Edge Rescue is a organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abandoned and abused animals. We are the roots of love in rescue; it all starts with a heartbeat.
Our primary goal is to properly match up animals in need of a forever home with the appropriate families.
With our devoted team, we are able to serve our community and all pet owners by providing education on responsible pet ownership. Strongly believing in the importance of spay/ neutering!
We have just planted our seed in rescue and now we can grow with your support! You can help put life into our rescue as we save lives for those in need!
We provide our animals and adopters with a unique adoption process. Our "Foster to Adopt" process has proven most effective with ensuring our animals’ placement in their forever homes. This also ensures the adoptive families are as comfortable with their adoption decision!
Hemlock Edge Rescue, was incorporated in June 2013, but, it didn't start there…..
Founder, Cris Tornetta, has always had her hands dirty in rescue ever since she was little. She would follow in her Grandmother’s shadow as a toddler watching and learning how to care for abandoned, sick and strayed animals. Despite her allergies, she always wanted to share her love and help, assist, and work for the welfare of the animals. She grew up bottle feeding abandoned baby animals, caring for wounded animals, and giving sweet tender, love, and care to any creature in need. She grew up in this environment and it all came second nature. Everyone referred to her grandmother as "St. Francis", the patron saint of animals and Cris continues to follow in her footsteps.
Her grandmother continuously struggled to afford veterinarian care and support for the animals in need. During that time, there weren't local resources to help someone in her position. Cris wanted to honor her grandmother's hard work and determination and is her greatest inspiration.
Throughout the years, Cris has accumulated many successful rescue and adoption stories. But this was still not enough...
She realized she needed a team and with the support of her friend turned rescue partner, Dina, and a well known rescue group for Guidance and support, they gave her the confidence to fly! And that's when it all started.
After a launch party of the Rescue's incorporation in July and getting all the right people in place, Cris went full swing into rescue. Come November 2013, Cris was struggling with the “run-around” from local PA kill shelters. Judgements and Politics in her Local County Shelters Plus Competition for pulling... All of This made her more motivated to take matters into her own hands.
She cashed in her retirement savings, bought an old minivan and invested all she had into Hemlock and with only enough cash in gas, she headed SOUTH!
Where No one was Fighting over those Dogs, in Fact they didn't even exist to the public in these southern areas. So many Stray, abandoned and abused Dogs begging for rescues and shelters to help them..
Nov. 13’ Hemlock Edge Rescued 26dogs from 100% Kill shelters in T.N. and M.S. and helped Local Animal advocates saving lives off the streets! Since then Hemlock has run large rescue missions and transports 12/15 times times a year. Just about every few weeks you will See Hemlock headed south to keep strong with their mission. . Saving dozens upon dozens at a time. Hemlock has also directed our attention to disaster relief rescue. Hemlock made an impact during the Louisiana flood in 2016 and even EMPTIED a few shelters! Hurricane Harvey 2017' was next disaster relief mission, where Hemlock Teamed up with other local rescue groups so that HER could bring back as many as possible! Along the way we helped local shelters rebuild, volunteered our time and donated over 1000 lbs of dog food to residents and shelters in need! More Disaster Relief continues to happen as HER is needed!
Hemlock has also began a small transporting business to help bring animals in the areas of despair in the Mid-South to other rescue organizations!
With the help of partnering rescue organizations and a strong foster/ volunteer family, Hemlock Edge Rescue NOW has a loud voice in the animal/rescue community!
To date we have rescued over 900 LIVES!
Hemlock is celebrating our 8th year and we are about to breakover 1000 adoptions/lives saved!
We are moving strong! Please continue to follow our struggles and success stories!
